An electric bike lock is made to protect the eBike against theft. It avoids instances where the bike could be carried or ridden away.
Electric bikes are considered a high-ticket item because of its price and demand, which is why there are risk of theft when owning one. A lock can help you secure your eBike, so you can have peace of mind when parking.
All eBike locks are useful, but no lock can really guarantee 100% safety. Thieves with time, tools, and very strong desire has high chances of getting their hands on your eBike. Some even use combination of locks to increase the security. For example:
- Frame Lock to immobilize the rear wheel
- Folding Lock to immobilize the frame
- Cable/Chain Lock to hook the bike into a stationary and stable object like parking bollards or stands.
So there is no best lock per se, but there are locks that have higher security rating than the other and a type that you can find more convenient over the other based on your parking area.
You can also make the following adjustments to further increase the security of your eBike:
- Avoid high-risk places
- Avoid parking in dark areas
- Remove enticing and high-value parts (e.g. battery and display)

A chain lock is one of the heavy-duty options because it could resist some saw or cutter. It gives you peace of mind when leaving your bike in public places. It is also 2nd flexible option after cable locks.
A folding lock for eBike is known for portability because you can simply fold it up and keep it in pocket when not in use. It is made up of durable metal strips joined by a hinge and you can expand it to use similarly to a chain lock.
If you need something compact for your next eBike lock, go for a folding lock.
A frame wheel is attached on the bike to immobilize the rear wheel. This only prevents the thief from riding away, so it is recommended for short stops only. You may want to employ other type of locks to maximize security.
